Elmira is located in
Chemung County 60 miles west of
Binghamton near the Pennslyvania state line between Corning and Waverly along Highway 17 on the banks of the Chemung River and in the
Western Region of the state. Samuel Clemens married Elmira native Olivia Langdon and they spent their summers here until Haley's Comet took Samuel away.
