The Heckscher houses 185 works of art from Heckscher's own collection of European and American paintings, plus sculpture, and works on paper from the Renaissance to 1920. Today it exceeds 1,300 European and American paintings, sculpture, and works on paper from the Renaissance to the present day. The collection is strong in late 19th-century American landscape painting and the work of early American modernists from the first half of the 20th century.
