The Museum of the Historical Society of Saratoga Springs is located in a charming 1870 Italianate brick building. While the building was originally intended for gambling and elegant dining, the gambling was stopped by "reformers" in the first decade of the 20th century. Museum visitors can, however, walk through the High Stakes Room, which contains some original furnishings and gambling paraphernalia. The Museum also conducts scheduled tours through parts of the Casino, including the dining room with its vaulted, stained-glass ceiling, that are not ordinarily open to the public. The collections include the George S. Bolster Photographic Collection, a photographic archive of over 375,000 images; thousands of historical documents; a significant costume and accessory collection; and thousands of objects from the grand hotels, spas, casinos, neighborhoods, and organizations that form the tapestry of Saratoga Springs history.
