Le Roy is located in
Genesee County 26 miles SW of
Rochester between Caledonia and Stafford along Highway 5 near Frost Ridge Ski Area in the
Western Region of the state. Le Roy is part of the
Rochester, New York metro area.
Le Roy is the birthplace of Jell-O. In 1897, cough medicine manufacturer Pearl B. Wait came up with fruit-flavored gelatin and began making it in strawberry, raspberry, lemon and orange flavors. Wait sold the business to his neighbor, Orator Francis Woodward, for $450.
