In 1979, what is now NYU Downtown Hospital was formed by the merger of Beekman Downtown Hospital and the New York Infirmary. From their inception, Beekman Downtown and the New York Infirmary provided services to communities with a diversity of needs, and each was a pioneer in medical practice and education.
NYU Downtown Hospital delivers state-of-the-art healthcare with the intimate attention and compassion of a community hospital. The NYU Downtown Hospital staff is committed to providing excellence in healthcare to the people of the Downtown community.
NYU Downtown Hospital is the only full-service hospital in Lower Manhattan, an area of thriving commerce and residence, rich in tradition and diverse in population. The Hospital stands surrounded by a number of landmarks: the Brooklyn Bridge and south Street Seaport to the East; to the North, City Hall, Chinatown, and Little Italy; Wall Street to the South; and to the West the World Trade Center site and Battery Park City.
