Samaritan Hospital opened its doors in 1898, at a time when major clinical and technological discoveries, such as x-rays, the electrocardiogram and new methods of diagnosis and treatment, were dramatically changing the way healthcare could be delivered to the community. First located on Eighth Street in
Troy, in the former Troy Orphan's Asylum, the hospital moved to its present location at the corner of Burdett and Peoples Avenues in the early 20th century.
A community hospital with a 238-bed capacity, Samaritan offers a vast range of services including emergency services, critical care, ambulatory surgery, maternity, cancer care, women's health and behavioral health services.
In 1995, Samaritan Hospital and The Eddy came together in the creation of Northeast Health, the region's most comprehensive network of healthcare, supportive housing and community services. Samaritan, along with Albany Memorial Hospital, comprise the patient care division of Northeast Health.
