South Oaks Hospital, one of the oldest and largest private psychiatric hospitals in the country, is a behavioral health continuum consisting of comprehensive treatment programs for mental illness, drug and gambling addiction, and alcoholism. Inpatient, partial hospitalization, and outpatient modalities are offered.
Founded in 1881, in 1882 the hospital consisted of one main building with a capacity for 100 patients. Today, the hospital complex, set on 83 acres, consists of 12 buildings with a capacity for 217 inpatients.
