Palatine Bridge is located in Montgomery County in the Central Region of the state.
It was named for German Palatines, who moved to the area to escape persecution in Europe and was settled in 1723 by families from the Schoharie Valley and Livingston Manor. Well-known residents have included Webster Wagner, inventor of the Wagner sleeping car, which began use in 1858 on the New York Central Railroad.
