Palmyra is located in
Wayne County 22 miles SE of
Rochester between Macedon and Port Gibson along Highway 21/31 near the Erie Canal
Western Region. Palmyra was the birthplace of Mormonism and the early home of Joseph Smith. The Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints was organized and the `Book of Mormon` was published nearby in 1830. A visitor center on the Peter Whitmer Farm, where the church was founded is 5 miles south of Waterloo on Hwy 96. Palmyra is part of the
