In 1872, Hammondsports first bonded winery, the Pleasant Valley Wine Company, built the 8-mile-long, single-track Bath and Hammondsport Railroad to link the wine village with the railroad. Known as the Champagne Trail, the lines slogan was Not as long as the others, but just as wide. The line still ships wine and grapes. Kids swim here unofficially; sanctioned bathing is at Champlin Beach. Open for public viewing daily in season.
