The Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research & Preservation, a non-profit corporation housed within the Long Island aquarium Atlantis Marine World, continues to develop the Marine Mammal and Sea Turtle Stranding Program as the only entity authorized to operate such a program in the State of New York. The Foundation conducts research and education programs about the region's marine habitats. It offers seal cruises each year and seal sighting walks. These cruises provide the opportunity to educate approximately 18,000 people a year about the marine environment, and help support the Foundation's work.
