In 1777 this limestone building housed the first meeting of
New York's newly organized State Senate. A "government on the run" being chased north from New York City by the British Army. The museum boasts Hudson Valley furnishings and art exhibits reflecting the works and lives of John Vanderlyn and other Hudson Valley artists. The rooms of the Senate House punctillously reflect the atmosphere of 1777 when the New York State Senate met here in the home of Abraham Van Gaasbeek.
