The first museum was established sixty years ago in an automobile showroom on East 54th Street. The Museum of Non-Objective Painting and displayed the radical art of such artists as Kandinsky, Klee, and Mondrian. Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, the present building has a domed white circular section that creates an interesting visual illusion. Paintings hang along the spiraled walkway. Besides the permanent collection, the museum exhibits late 19th and 20th century paintings and sculpture.
