This cemetery, est. 1863, has interred over 250,000 souls, many of whom are notables: Duke Ellington, Herman Melville, Joseph Pulitzer. It also has an inordinate number of dead politicians: attorney generals, Secretary of States and at least one former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Chas Evans Hughes. Musical programs, tours and special events are held periodically. Open daily, weather permitting.
