Wurtsboro is located in Sullivan County 22 miles west of Newburgh along Highway 209 on the banks of the Basher Kill River near Big Vanilla Ski Area and Ice Caves Mountain in the Southern Region of the state. It was named after Maurice and William Wurts, brothers who built the D&H Canal.
