Chesapeake is located in southeastern Ohio in Lawrence County about 100 miles south-southeast of Columbus and 60 miles south-southwest of Athens on the banks of the Ohio River.

Recreational opportunities abound as the town is on the southern edge of Wayne National Forest. Fishable Symmers Creek empties into the Ohio here and Lake Vesuvius with its Recreational Area is only 15 miles to the northwest. In addition, Forest Hills Golf Course awaits golfers of all skill levels.
