Located on East Blvd., the museum overlooks the Fine Arts Gardens of Wade Park, with its seasonal flower displays. Collections of more than 34,000 works of art represent the art of many cultures and periods. Workds are displayed chronologically from the ancient Mediterranean period to present. Especially noteworthy are exhibits of Medieval European and Asian art. The museum includes 70 galleries, an auditorium, lecture and recital halls and classrooms where film and music series are offered. Open Tuesday-Sunday 10am-5pm; closed January 1, July 4, Thanksgiving and December 25.
