Established in 1840, this Old-Time General Store, a part of the Great Western Reserve, is one of the oldest operating general stores in Ohio. Ken and Margaret Schaden and their 11 children (the Schaden's claim that feeding their large family gave them experience with bulk buying) run the End of the Commons General Store, located at routes 87 and 534, 6 miles east of Middlefield. They sell over 800 products in bulk to Amish families who shop for their own large families and cook mostly from scratch. Most arrive at the store in horse-drawn buggies, which are parked out front at the hitching rail.
