Martins Ferry is located in eastern Ohio in
Belmont County just east of
St. Clairsville along SR 7 just north of
I-70 on the banks of the
Ohio River. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 7,447, a decrease of 556 since 1990.
The town is the oldest in Ohio being founded in 1785 by Absalom Martin and flourished due to the nearby coal, glass, and steel industries in Wheeling (then Virginia) as well as other nearby areas.
Nearby recreation includes trips to Belmont Lake and Barkcamp State Park about 15 miles west of town.
