Norwalk

Norwalk, the Huron County county seat, is located about 50 miles east-southeast of Cleveland and about the same southeast of Toledo on the banks of the Huron River. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 15,694, an increase of 963 since 1990.

The town was formed in 1817 and was named for Norwalk, CT. The land was created from the " Western Reserve," and comprise the "Fire Lands" grant (see Firelands Museum) made in 1792 by the state of Connecticut to the people of Greenwich, Fairfield, Danbury, , Danbury, [ridgefie], Norwalk, New Haven, East Haven and New London to indemnify them for their fire losses during the British expeditions in Connecticut under Governor Tryon in 1779 and Benedict Arnold in 1781.
