Rio Grande

Rio Grande is located in southeastern Ohio in central Gallia County about 75 miles southeast of Columbus.

For those wanting to extend their high school education or just take in a non-credit class, the town hosts Rio Grande Community College. The dedication of the new Alumni Memorial Bell Tower on September 13, 2001, the date that classes began in 1876, marked the college's 125th birthday. It was one of the first colleges in the country to be established by a woman, Permelia Atwood who was bound bythe death-bed promise to her husband.

The town is with easy driving distance of a number of recreational venues including Wayne National Forest of which portions are located north, west and south of town. Tycoon Lake is about 5 miles to the north and Jackson Lake is about 15 miles west of town while access to the Ohio River is only 15 miles to the east.
