James Thurber

James Grover Thurber was one of America's best-loved comedic author/illustrators. His work graced the pages of The New Yorker

from 1927 until his death in 1961.

Born in Columbus, Ohio, in 1894, Thurber was well known for his predilection for dogs and his playful treatment of the relationships between males and females. Some of his well-known creations include The Secret Life of Walter Mitty; The Catbird Seat, which was turned into the movie The Battle of the Sexes and Thurber's Men Women and Dogs.

Some aphorisms attributed to Thurber include "The dog has seldom been successful in pulling man up to its level of sagacity, but man has frequently dragged the dog down to his." and "You can fool too many of the people too much of the time."
