Waynesville

"The Antiques Capital of the Midwest"

Waynesville is located in southwestern Ohio in Warren County 35 miles north-northeast of Cincinnati on the banks of the Little Miami River. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 2,431, an increase of 482 since 1990.

Samuel Heighway founded Waynesville in 1797 and thought his town would become the "Capital of the Northwest Territory. His design was that of an English village with formal parks and squares which were arranged around a central public square. These were accented with plans for a serpentine walk, groves of ornamental trees and fishponds. Included in the original draft of the town's layout were several fountains which would provide exclamations points to the plan.

The "Home of the Ohio Sauerkraut Festival" (usually held the second weekend in October) puts on a number of interesting events throughout the year including the "Waynesville Arts Festival" in early May, the "Blues & Barbeque" in mid-August and "Christmas In The Village", an old fashioned Christmas, in early December.
