Wellston is located in southeastern Ohio in northern Jackson County about 60 miles south-southeast of Columbus and 25 miles southwest of Athens. Nearby recreation is all around. The town is situated within minutes in any direction of Wayne National Forest. Lake Ruppert, less than 5 miles to the north, provides water-related activities. Facilities at Richland Furnace Forest are just 10 miles northwest of town. In addition, Buckeye Furnace is open to the public.
