Fort George at Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario played an important role in the defense of Upper Canada during the war of 1812. During this period, it was a significant base of operations for the British and, briefly, the Americans. The fort was reconstructed by the Niagara Parks Commission between 1937 and 1940.
