Niagara Falls
|
The Niagara Falls are considered to be the most spectacular waterfalls on the North American continent. Formed by the Niagara River as it drains the Great Lakes into Lake Ontario, the falls consist of the American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls on the U.S. side, and the Canadian Falls on Canada's side. The Canadian Falls, 54m(177ft) high, have a crest of more than 675m (2,215ft) outlining a deep curve, which results in its other name of Horseshoe Falls. The falls continue to erode its soft shale and limestone foundations, but the use of the waters to generate electricity has slowed the flow. The observation area is accessible by car and regular bus transportation.
