This Greco-Roman style amphitheater features a fan-shaped pergola amid rock gardens, lily ponds, terraces and promenades, at the foot of Clifton Hill. The amphitheatre is situated on the site of the historic Clifton and Lafayette hotels, overlooking American Falls and directly across from the Maid of the Mist Plaza. The foundation of the Clifton Hotel, built in 1833 and twice destroyed by fire, was incorporated into the new structure, which opened to the public in 1937.
An architectural and horticultural showcase, the site hosts a number of public concerts throughout the year and serves as a formal entrance to Queen Victoria Park. Situated next to the amphitheatre and separated by a wide stairway are the Rainbow Gardens; the Rainbow Plaza and Rainbow Bridge are located nearby. Admission to the site is free to the public.
