Florence area Birds

Check the Siuslaw River Bay in Old Town area for gulls, merganzers, loons, cormorants, and grebes. Follow Rhododendron Drive out to the north jetty, stopping along the way.

Along the South Jetty Road, the wetlands attract tundra swans in winter. Look for northern harriers, black shouldered kites, northern shrikes, meadowlarks, Canada geese, and even an occasional snowy owl.

Out on the south jetty look for grebes, loons, buffleheads, mergansers, gulls, and even an oldsquaw or two. Check the rocks for turnstones.
