North Coos Bay Birding

Haynes Inlet, Jordan Cove and Horsfall Beach.

North Slough, Haynes Inlet, and the northern reaches of Coos Bay often harbor huge rafts of bay ducks, sometimes including redhead and occasionally, European wigeon. All three regular loons may be found as well.

North of the Bay Bridge, take the causeway west toward Horsefall Beach. Look for herons and egrets here. Bear left after the track, and turning southwest you will have Jordan Cove on your left. Park on the gravel flats at a good vantage point on the east side of the road. Black-bellied plover, dunlin, both yellowlegs, least and western sandpipers amd marbled godwit are regular here, while pectoral and Baird's sandpipers are usually present in migration. To the west of the main road is a trail to Jordan Lake.
