Brookings, Samuel H. Boardman State Park and the south jetty of the Chetco River. |
Boardman is a long, narrow park with viewpoints and trails to the beach. Some of the trails for viewing passerines and beach access are North Island Trail, Indian Sands Trial and Whalehead trail, each spaced at about 1-mile intervals. At Brookings, check out Azalea State Park, just before the bridge on North Bank Road. Look for passerines and check for both rufous and Allen's hummingbirds here. You can reach the south jetty by going through a series of marinas. Great for viewing gulls. Look for pelicans in the summer and bay ducks in the winter.
