Ill-fated Lakeport, a community born from the belief that Floras Lake could be a major shipping point for Oregon Coast products, disappeared after the discovery that ocean access could only have been achieved through expensive locks that would have drained the lake. Today, there is access to a boat launch and the lake is popular with windsurfers.
Windsurfing on Floras Lake is popular for both beginners and experts. Steady northwest winds average 15-25 knots mid-day to late afternoon, so the mornings are ideal for beginning lessons.
The site is difficult to find and the lake is the domain of windsurfers.
