High Lava Plains Geologic Province

Search Visit Oregon
This area of Oregon has some of the most recent faulting and youngest volcanic activity in Oregon. Well-preserved in a high desert climate, volcanic features stand out above the plains.

The relatively recent volcanic features include volcanoes, cinder cones, buried forests, obsidian flows, lava tubes, and a large explosion crater. For information, contact the DeschutesNational Forest.
