Owned and operated by Oregon Museum of Science & Industry for more than 40 years, Hancock is located in Central Oregon's John Day River Valley, an area world-famous for its fossil-rich rock formations. Hancock is an excellent site for an outdoor educational experience, including the study of paleontology, geology, ecology, botany, zoology, archaeology, ornitholgy, and astronomy. Hancock Field Station functions as a full residential facility and as a base camp for trips to surrounding areas. Living facilities consist of A-frame cabins, bathroom, and shower facilities, rec area, campfire circle and a dining hall with seating for 100. Program facilities include labs, a darkroom, lapidary workshop and library. Days are hot, evenings and nights cool.
