Owned and operated by the city of Independence the Heritage Museum is housed in a former Baptist church built in 1888. The museum features a covered wagon, schoolroom, parlor, tools, photos, and
Native Americans artifacts. Independence and the surrounding area was originally occupied by the Kalapoonian Tribe. "Life on the Willamette", (River). The Willamette river was THE main source of commerce in the late 19th century.
Hours: Wed-sat, 1-5pm; Thurs-Fri, 1-4pm, or by appointment.
