The Hood River Area is Oregon's largest fruit-growing district. Farm families harvest 30 percent of the nation's winter pears, tones of apples, produce wines made from locally grown grapes and fruit, raise alpacas and turn hillsides of huckleberries into everything from pies to tea and taffy.
