Though still a relatively recent arrival in the United States, traditional Oriental medicine has already found a firm foothold in this country's health care system.
The Oregon College of Oriental Medicine program presents course work and training in all aspects of traditional Oriental medicine, including the theory and practice of acupuncture, herbal medicine, traditional Chinese physio-therapy, exercise and qi cultivation; adjunctive courses in Western biomedicine, including anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology and clinical diagnosis; and relevant course work in public and community health, community service, research, practice management and practitioner/patient dynamics.
They have planned their student growth since 1989 and hold the Master's degree program to about 200 students. As a result, OCOM's hands-on classes, such as Point Location, have an instructor-student ratio of 1-8.
OCOM is located in Portland which is in Multnomah County.
