Established in 1896 as the Oregon Symphony Society, this is the oldest symphony west of the Mississippi and one of only four symphonies in the United States founded before 1900. Concerts are given at the Arlene Schnitzer Hall in the
Portland Performing Arts Center. The symphony plays to audiences totalling around 300,000 annually.
