Three full-time marine mammologists experienced in killer whale care and management will be permanently assigned to Keiko. They join four other full-time marine mammologists who care for the Aquarium's harbor seals, California sea lions, and sea otters. In addition, Keiko's two Reino Aventura trainers will be guest staff membes in Newport for approximately four months.
At his new home, Keiko will eat more than before, approximately 250 pounds daily, consisting typically of herring, squid, capelin, salmon, and sardines. All food will be restaurant quality, will be frozen to kill parasites, and will be supplemented by daily vitamins. Menus will be varied depending Keiko's health and the catch of the day.
