The main pool is 150 feet long, 75 feet wide, and 25 feet deep--nearly four times larger than the Mexico City pool. Its two million gallons of cold, clean sea water is pumped directly from Yaquina Bay. A separate medical pool allows for isolation if treatment is required.
Reef-like rockwork covers half the pool's bottom, providing a rubbing surface, acoustic variety, and Keiko-sized canyons and crannies.
Three eight-foot-high underwater viewing windows allow visitors to see Keiko and vice versa.
The water current within the pool can be altered to discourage repetitive single-direction swimming.
A freezer has been built that will hold up to a year's supply of Keiko's food, or 120,000 pounds of frozen fish.
