The Stein Butte Trail was named for a prospector who mined in the vicinity in the areas early gold rush years in the mid 1800s. The trail features panoramic views of Applegate Lake and the Siskiyou Mountains. There is also evidence of hydraulic, surface, and lode mining activity. The trail is accessible to hikers, mountain bikers, horseback riders, and motorcycle riders. For more information, contact the Applegate Ranger District.
