Established in 1937, Seaside Aquarium is one of the oldest aquariums on the West Coast. Among the animals here, are an octopus, several varieties of crab including the Spider, Decorator, Kelp, Box, Snow, Hermit, and the Oregon Dungeness and the peculiar Tiger Rock Fish and other unusual creatures. The aquarium boasts captive breeding records for harbor seals in the world. Many of the seals are 3rd or 4th generation offspring.
The new discovery center gives an opportunity to use a microscope to view the tiniest creatures. The aquarium also features public awareness programs, including the Marine Mammal Stranding Network, Necanicum Estuary Discovery Program, Sea Week and other marine education tours and activities for school children.
