This community of 400 on the southern shore of Nehalem Bay offers shopping, lodging, dining, fishing, and boating. Hwy 101 is Wheeler’s “Main Street.” Wheeler boomed after rail service to Portland was established in 1911, but the timber economy was devastated after the Tillamook Burn. The historic Old Wheeler Hotel has been restored in an area that includes several antique outlets.
