The 873 square mile county was established in June of 1844. The county's annual rainfall is 70 inches. 33,900 people live in the county, which includes Astoria, the first American city to be settled in the west. The other major communities of Clatsop County are Seaside, Oregon's oldest ocean resort community, and Cannon Beach. Highway 101 runs through the county along the coast, while Highway 30 (Columbia River) and Highway 26 (the Sunset Highway) connect Clatsop County with the inland parts of Oregon.
