Named for Athena, Greek goddess of wisdom. Founded in 1814, this three-story Italianate Revival building is furnished with American fine and decorative arts from the first half of the 19th century. Changing exhibits, drawn from the reference collections in architectural history and historic design, can be seen in the first floor gallery. Guided tours are offered by appointment. Open Monday-Friday 9am-5pm; closed holidays. The library and reading room open by appointment only. Admission is free to the public.
