Berwick was founded in 1786 as a religious refuge for the Quakers (formally the Society of Friends). Berwick is located in Columbia County southwest of Wilkes-Barre along US Highway 11 on the banks of the Susquehanna River. Berwick is part of the Scranton--Wilkes-Barre--Hazleton metro area.
