Built in 1895, it is one of the nation's foremost public libraries. It contains more than 4 million items, including books, magazines, newspapers, records, cassettes, photographs and electronic sources. The library is the state's resource library for science and technology. Cultural, educational and recreational programs are also offered. Guided tours are available. Open Monday-Thursday 9am-9pm, Friday & Saturday 9am-5:30pm, the rest of the year. Free to the public.
