Lehighton is located in northeast Pennsylvania within
Carbon County in the southwest Pocono Mountains. It is situated north of
Allentown along Highway 443 near Beltzville Lake and the Lehigh Tunnel.
Most of the early settlers were from Germany, and even today, over half of the residents are of German ancestry. The town began when the Moravian Brethren society began converting Indians in the 1740s. The Moravian's organized a mission and established a settlement here.
Lehighton is part of the Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton, Pennsylvania metro area.
