Mansfield is located in northern Pennsylvania, within
Tioga County, not far from the New York border. After settlement, a sawmill was opened in the area in 1803, and a gristmill opened in 1805 to grind rye. Many historic houses are still in use in Mansfield, including structures from the 1820s.
Today, Mansfield is home to Mansfield University Of Pennsylvania, founded in 1857. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 3,104, a decrease of 434 since 1990.
