The mountainous Gaspe Peninsula is the northernmost part of the
Appalachian Mountains. It lies south of the
Saint Lawrence River and reaches the Gulf of Saint Lawrence north of Chaleur Bay. Gaspe Peninsula is 150 miles long and from 70 to 85 miles wide. It has 450 miles of coastline and covers more than 11,000 square miles. The highest point is Mount Jacques Cartier at 4160 feet.
