El Yunque

Caribbean National Forest

Located an hour east of San Juan in the Luqillo Mountains and protected by the U.S. Forest Service, is El Yunque, Puerto Rico's top natural attraction. Over 100 billion gallons of rain fall annually with four forest types containing 240 species of tropical trees. There are at least a dozen trails that wind past waterfalls, vegetation and miniature flowers while island parrots fly above you.

El Yunque was given national park status by President Roosevelt, this 28,000 acre preserve is the only tropical rain forest on U.S. soil. The land is unspoiled and has the same terrain in 1493 when Columbus first visited.
